About the Pakistan Institute of Human Rights
Established in 1972, the Pakistan Institute of Human Rights (PIHR) is one of the most historic and respected institutions in South Asia dedicated to advancing universal human dignity, justice, and the rule of law. Founded by an extraordinary assembly of legal visionaries—including Barrister Dr. Javaid Iqbal Jafree, Barrister Qamar Abbas, and other legal gurus of Pakistani origin from the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia—PIHR was conceived as a global-standard platform for legal reform, advocacy, and the defense of human rights. Drawing from the intellectual and legal traditions of common law systems, the Institute has played a pivotal role in shaping public discourse, legal education, and state accountability mechanisms in Pakistan and beyond. For over five decades, PIHR has remained unwavering in its commitment to justice, amplifying the voices of the marginalized while influencing policy frameworks at national and international levels.
